YOGA

I took my first yoga class in 1995 as a way to rehabilitate a back and neck injury from a car accident. I was hooked from the beginning, but limited to one class a week because the nearest studio was 35 minutes away.

Over the years that followed, yoga became as ubiquitous in the West as jazzercise was in the 80's, and I began a consistent practice. I did my first teacher training in 2008, then followed up with a pre/postnatal certification in 2010.

Over the years I've cycled through various styles of yoga, including Iyengar, Bikram, Hatha, and vigorous Vinyasa, and taken breaks of months or even years. Yet no matter how many times I've strayed, or how far I roamed, I've always returned to my hOMe on the mat.

These days, I am more interested in what yoga does for my heart and mind than what it does for my body (though I appreciate that, too!). My heels will probably never touch the ground in down dog, and I’m still scared to do a handstand in the middle of the room, but I have come to a place in my life where I am able to offer what I feel is the heart of yoga. That is, an environment that is physically and psychologically safe, trauma-informed, and inclusive to all people regardless of race, gender, and sexual orientation. Everyone is welcome in my classes, and I make every effort to accommodate the abilities of the students who show up in any given class.

In my classes we practice with intention, move slowly, pause to integrate, and…we BREATHE. Join us!
